Dream 933 – The Race & The Resistance

Communion

Dear Father,

Thank You for another day! Thank You for Your love and kindness! You bless me beyond measure.

Yesterday I struggled. I’m trying to get my bearings back. I’ve been running from You.

I had two dreams last night…

Sub-dream 1 “The Marathon” begins…

I was a runner in a marathon race but it was on a cross-country track. I was very thin and lean but extremely strong. My lungs were healthy and I actually felt joy during this race.

(Note: I am not a runner at all. I loved sprinting and running the 440 yard dash but never had any desire to run in marathons. I used to run/jog the white and blue golf courses at Penn State with my walkman, but to run a long race with my thoughts didn’t seem fun to me.)

There were people lining this wilderness course cheering me on and raising their hands to give me a high-five. The odd thing is, I’m not sure where I stood in this race–where my place was in it. I just continued to run.

Then, as sweat dripped down my face, I heard someone yell, “Erin, only 3 more miles to go–you can do this!” It gave me a burst of adrenaline to know I had only a few short miles left and it made the journey easier as the terrain became more of an uphill rocky climb.

At one point, there was a person from behind a tree telling me to stop and quit–they yelled horrible things at me. For a moment I paused and wondered if I should continue my uphill battle. Then I heard, “Erin, only a mile and a half to go–run the good race! You’ve got this!” I looked for the bad person who was saying terrible things to me, but they had disappeared.

I looked ahead of me and the hill went almost straight up. It looked impossible. I could hear my labored breathing now and began to feel my muscles tighten and cramp.

I heard some footsteps behind me–it sounded like someone was suddenly closing in on me. I sped up and reached the top of the hill. I looked down to see the finish line ahead of me with a great number of people cheering and waiting. I was so excited that I barely remember the rest of the race.

Sub-dream 1 over…

I woke up to my dog barking.

What a great dream, Father! Thank You! It was still too early to wake up. I drifted back to sleep.

Sub-dream 2 “The Kayak & The Shoreline” begins…

I was in a kayak out in the water. It was a beautiful sunny day. I was sitting still looking at the shoreline. I wasn’t sure where I wanted to beach. I began to paddle along the shore about 100 yards out.

I was avoiding the shore, but I didn’t want to be in the water anymore. I just couldn’t decide which beach I needed to land on. I was becoming thirsty and the sun was high in the sky. The water was still and I could see the sandy bottom.

I looked at the shoreline and still couldn’t make a decision. Then the winds and the currents began to pick up. I didn’t want to fall victim to waves I couldn’t navigate, so I began to paddle towards the shore.

I heard one of my children call out to me. It sounded like my daughter. “Mom, come home, please! We miss you!”

I couldn’t see her, but I paddled faster as the waves became larger. I finally reached the beach right before the waves became huge. I yelled out, “I’m home! I’m here.”– I woke up saying this.

Sub-dream 2 over…

Father, I know that’s me in the kayak, avoiding what I have to deal with. I can’t imagine in any situation enjoying floating at sea without coming to shore.

Jesus:  “I’m here, Erin, I’m with you. You are running a good race. You finish strong–it doesn’t matter where you are in your journey, just that I am with you. There are many more who are for you than who are against you. Don’t listen to the one who lies. Listen to the many who stand in truth, who stand also with Me. These are your friends. In your dream, where was the enemy?”

Me:  “On the uphill portion, toward the end of the race.”

Jesus:  “Well, he lingers and stalks like a predator in the shadows or behind a tree. He waited for you when you were reaching the most difficult portion of your race when you were at your weakest and questioning your place in the race. Though you were tired and your body grew weak, you continued the uphill battle forward toward your finish line.

“Notice that your focus was finishing a good race, not competing for a win? This is what I’m looking for, Erin, you know this race is difficult. The path is rocky and the terrain is up and down. It was a race of your personal walk–only you.

“You have always compared yourself to others and measured your success on the scales of the world. But, in the race I enter you into, all that matters is where you remain in Me and that you finish with your whole heart, strongly completing this race well and upright.”

Me:  “Have I, Lord?”

Jesus:  “Oh Erin, you have kept your heart on Me and this race. You paused for a moment to hear another voice shout curses, but you kept running towards the finish line. The voice of cursing reminds you that you are capable of failure and weakness–the enemy works hard to have you veer off course in a different race, an unsatisfying victory. One that reminds you of a new reality where you fail permanently and fall short of reaching the finish line of victory in Me! But I’m here to say, ‘You finish My race in victory, Erin, not defeat!’ Be encouraged!

“Now, the second dream is a clear one–you are avoiding things which bring you peace and joy. You are afraid of the blessing of a peaceful shore which represents home. Come into shore, Erin. Do not be afraid. I love you and I am here. Be at peace and home with Me. Though you feel great sorrow, you are never alone. I am here.”

Me:  “I’m sorry, Lord. I’m still so broken–I’m struggling. I feel I haven’t landed on shore yet. I still feel anxious and scared.”

Jesus:  “I am here. I will build a fortress for you on the peaceful cove. There I will shelter you, give you food to fill up your stomach, living water to quench your weary soul and a fresh fire in you to ignite your Spirit. I am with you, Erin. Allow me to do this.”

Me:  “I need more of You, Lord. I need all of this, Your cover, Your Word of Truth, living water to refresh me and a fresh fire to ignite my Spirit. Let this be as You have said, Lord.”

Jesus:  “Then it is done! On Earth as it is in Heaven.”
