Communion
Thank You for another day here! Thank You for all You do for me–everyday small things and larger things! I love You more every day. Changes have come here! I no longer have the ability to care for everyone and continue to provide as I have done all these years. I’ve had to make difficult decisions which aren’t the most popular but these are necessary. To continue to live like this is unsustainable as I move into my late years. Homes that I qualify on a fixed income are small.
When I travelled last weekend up North to home, I even looked for places there and all the places in between and Father, I see that You have allowed this by Your own Will and plans for me.
My oldest son and I set out to look at apartments for both of my sons. One son is excited while the other is sad, but finally resigning to the reality of the situation. I tried every plausible way to find a larger place but it was too much and You stepped in to make clear what changes needed to be made. When I began to negotiate or try to accommodate, You would go silent. Nothing felt right. Then, when I began to move in the right direction, You made known that this was the way!
You reminded me that the path You often lead us on is a rough path filled with uncertainty. Father, I see my path but I don’t know how far I will walk in the not knowing portion. The thick overgrowth creates a dark and uneven way as I see it. But Father, on this journey You’ve created for me I take confidence that You are there with me. You will strengthen me and inspire me to travel this way–“the narrow road is the Way!”
The events have started into motion and now cannot be reversed, and so I must see this through. Thank You for sending me signs and wonders to remind me You are God in all things, great and small.
My travel up North was a very difficult one. I hadn’t seen the family home, my step dad or my brother in 11 years. I travelled alone with worship music for the 7 hour drive. I needed the time with You, Father, in prayer and praise. I stayed at a hotel in Coeur d’Alene and met my brother for dinner. It was wonderful to catch up. He seemed tired. The years have been stressful and I could see it. He had been wrapping up his practice and clients for his next chapter. It was great to see him.
The next day, I travelled up to Sandpoint to my family home. My heart was broken. It’s so hard to see this place frozen in time. All my mom’s things were just as she had left them with very little out of place. My step dad greeted me at the door and I was so glad to see him. He had been battling cancer and was old and frail. Parkinson’s had been setting in and his hands were shaking. This once strong tall man who was invincible and too busy to even pause to have a conversation was now unable to do all he once could. He had sold the plane he had built years ago. He had closed up his knife making business and sold all his equipment. He was so talented in so many areas. As I spoke to him I felt so much heaviness and sorrow.
His son and daughter-in-law had moved to the home next to his years ago so they have been helping care for him and I’m so grateful to them. There was a colony of knife makers and all of his friends are still alive and live within walking distance of the home. His son has a koi pond with more than 100 of these beautiful fish so we walked and sat at the pond for an hour as my step dad told stories about the pond, the predators and each of the named fish. Meanwhile, I could hear his son’s African grey parrot singing in its cage by the house.
After this he took me for a tour of the garden and we walked back to the house. He told me he had something to give me and came back with a practically brand new set of hearing aids for me to keep. He showed me how to use them and then I could tell he was becoming tired, with longer pauses between conversation. I told him I needed to drive back to the hotel to meet friends later. We hugged and walked to the porch. The old bird feeder was there and so many nuthatches and chickadees were landing nearby within inches of my head. It was entertaining. I asked him if I could take a photo and he posed. I told him I would come back, “God-willing”, in the spring and he said he looked forward to my visit. We said our goodbyes and I turned to walk the path away from the cabin. Instead of walking back inside, he sat there and waved as he watched me go. I took a photo and waved back. When I got to my car, I wept and wept. I’d been gone too long. I’m not sure he will make it to spring.
I wasn’t expecting to be so affected by my visit with my step dad. The home was so filled with memories of mom everywhere and he was there alone in them. Father, if You take him home before I return, please appear to him. Show him the way to You. Bless him and save him for my sake. I was so distraught when I left, I couldn’t meet with my high school friends for dinner. Instead, I travelled back to the hotel and met my brother again for dinner. He seemed lonely too. He had been living in his huge home alone. He and his wife of 30+ years were separated and his daughters were living in other states. He seemed excited about his next chapter in life, I was happy for him. Dinner wrapped up and we said goodbye, then I drove back to the hotel. I realized I had hit my limit of brokenness. I sent my regrets to my friends and let my brother know I’d be leaving early Sunday morning.
I felt at peace. I have been struggling with my own health recently and I knew it would be better for me to get home. Father, I underestimated the personal toll that this trip would take on me. Thank You for being with me and delivering me home.
The night before travelling home to Bend, I had a dream.
Sub-dream 1 “An Army and an Old Home” begins…
I travelled to Sandpoint. I went to our old home at the edge of the long bridge. The home we once lived in had since become a resort, Swan’s Landing, and then 41 South before closing the month before, in September. We lived there when I was in high school.
In the dream, our old home was still there at the lake. I had a rock at the shore I would stand on. As I stood there I could see such beautiful colors. It was stunning. The water was sparkling blue and the mountains were filled with tamarack pines. There was an osprey nest on a pole by the bridge and it would fish in the water.
The smells in the fresh air were just as I remembered it from when I was fourteen years old. I then walked up by the long bridge and looked over toward the train bridge and everything turned to grayscale. The entire area looked as if it were dying. There was no color, and no luster. Everything had changed. I then heard my mom’s voice call from our old house, “Erin!” I started running and yelled back, “Mom, mom, I’m here!”
I turned back toward the house and it was all gone. I then heard a great rumble and I looked toward the bridge coming from Sandpoint travelling south. There was a massive army with tanks travelling south.
Sub-dream 1 over…
Me: “Oh, Lord, I hope not. 95 North goes to Canada, the border is only an hour up the road.”
I then began to pack up my things to check out of the hotel. I was very focused now on getting home. When I got in my car I prayed for my trip. I heard You say, “Erin, I am here. Yes, changes are coming. Do not be afraid. Be strong and have courage as I am with you. Do not be afraid.”
Me: “Strengthen me, Lord. I do have fear. I’m older now and alone.”
Jesus: “You are never alone. I am here.”
I arrived back in Bend around 4:00 P.M. I was so glad to be home.
Then the storms came and come they did. I saw a slogan somewhere I can’t recall. Something like, “when you come out of the storm, you aren’t the same person who went into it”. This is what the storm was all about. The rainbow is waiting at the end. Father, I love You. Thank You for being with me. I know You haven’t taken me this far just to allow these storms to overtake me here.
I happened to have a particularly bad day later on in the week. I haven’t been looking forward to personal changes and having difficult conversations. Once I did, the nightmare scenario happened and I’ve been grieving ever since. Yesterday was the last beautiful warmer day before temperatures really plummet. Today there is a twenty percent chance of snow. We are forecasted to have seventy degree temperatures at the end of the week, so this is good.
On Friday night, I had another grayscale dream.
Sub-dream 2 “Nature Is Dying” begins…
An angel of the Lord tapped me to wake up. I don’t recall ever having this before. I sat up quickly.
Me: “Are my kids okay? Is there a fire?”
It was the funny angel.
Angel: “Whoa, whoa, Erin, calm down. If I had knocked on the front door, you wouldn’t have heard.” He held his hand up. “Okay, wakey wakey Erin!”
Me: “Did you say ‘wakey’? That’s funny.”
Angel: “It’s a term meaning, ‘wake up, let’s go’!”
I was laughing. He took my hand and I was in street clothes. I looked down and laughed again, “Wow, great combo!”
Angel: “There was no time to think about what to wear and where we are going.”
Me: “So where–“, Instantly before I could finish we were on one of the seven peaks overlooking the valley below. “Wow, this is amazing!”
Angel: “Observe this, what do you see?”
Me: “Everywhere I look the colors are vibrant. The trees are green and look alive. There are green and gold fields and rich red dirt in areas. The sky is a beautiful cerulean blue.”
Angel: “That’s specific. Are you certain it’s not more of a French ultramarine with a dash of cerulean?”
Me: “Oh, are you a painter?”
Angel: “I attended the same classes you did, Erin!” He laughed.
Me: I was in stunned silence. “So you really know everything about me–like everything?”
Angel: “No, not everything, only Jesus knows you. God created you in His image, not mine. But, I know quite a lot because you are my job–my assignment. Remember, you have a crew.” He smiled. He was handsome like all the angels. “Hey, don’t study me, I see what you’re doing.”
Me: “People need a description, it’s fun.”
Angel: “No, I will be putting the kibosh on this right now. These things lead to worship. I am a soldier in service to God in Heaven, that is all. You don’t even know my name for certain.”
Me: “I think you’re Xavier–pretty sure.”
Angel: “Okay, enough–now look out again, what do you see?”
I looked and tears began to stream down my cheeks.
Me: “Everything is dying, it’s in a greyscale. All the greens are muted. The sky is grey but has no clouds. It’s not what I remember, like it used to be. Nothing is the same. Changes have come but not in the way I had prayed for.”
Angel: “Erin, this is in real time right now. All you see here is slowly dying. Life as you know it is now gone. Some days are vivid with color but only as God brings the dawn and sunset do the colors display God’s glorious paintbrush.”
Me: “Why? Why?”
Angel: “Sin equals death. This isn’t about climate changes, it is truly that the climate or atmosphere in the hearts of man have brought the slow death here. This is all across the world. There are just enough good days that people forget that the bad has overcome the good.”
Me: “Will it stop? No, it won’t. I will answer my own question.”
Angel: “I want you to think of this. Read the book of Matthew. Fourtytwo generations set up the birth of God in flesh who came as an infant and still in all of this anticipation, all the prophecies, still no one was prepared for Yeshua–Jesus. Those who were learned and wise failed to read Isaiah and the other prophets to see plainly. Instead, only Herod learned that Jesus might be born as a child in Bethlehem, so he called for the slaughter of innocents. The enemy welled up in Herod, and you know the rest.
“So, understand the character of God. He is beyond human understanding. He is a planner. He is prepared and He is mighty to save. His lineage was stated again in the words of Matthew. (Matthew 1:17). All the generations from Abraham to David was fourteen, and from David to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the birth of the Savior this was fourteen generations! So, Erin, forty-two generations. God is the Architect of all of this! He put together His Story–He created His Story, understand? You are a part of His Story.”
Me: I was crying. “This is humbling. I feel like such a small bean–like no one, really.”
Angel: “Wait, so you are saying God assigned me and a crew of angels to no one? A small bean? I’m hurt…” He was laughing.
Me: “No, I’m sorry.”
Angel: “Let’s talk. Look at your story. Erin, from the beginning, don’t discount what God has created in you. He gave you like almost a thousand dreams and visions. He has given you so much. Do you not see it? I think we need to use the phone a friend option. You need a reminder of who you are. I’m placing a request.”
Me: “I’m sorry, I know He has had to work really hard on me.”
Angel: “You still don’t get it. He loves you so much, Erin. Start to step into His Majesty. You are royalty. You matter to the King. He sent some of His best,” He pointed to his chest, “to watch over all you do. He is not finished here.”
Me: “Don’t be salty, I’m sorry.”
Angel: “The devil has you so worried about what is coming that you can’t enjoy what is here and now. Don’t quit. He has brought you this far. He will never stop providing for you. He cares about you. You are His servant and He loves you. Never forget this. You have been shown a mystery and soon He will return and wipe away every tear. When He returns things will be different. The enemy has ramped up and God’s angel army is on stand by.”
Me: “He did send three storms, Isaias ‘God is my salvation’, Rachel ‘Female sheep’ and Simon ‘one who hears’.”
Angel: “Well this is not sent by the enemy. Erin, God is sending an assurance with the storm’s outcome but this is also a warning. He is the God who saves. He is the Shepherd. Who is the Good Shepherd?”
Me: “Jesus. John 10:27-28 says, ‘My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.”
Angel: “So this seems clear then, correct? It is a sign, Erin. The Lord is with you and He is mighty to save. Write down everything You’ve been shown today.”
Just then he was gone and I was back in bed.
Sub-dream 2 over…
Me: “Father, please continue to watch over us! I love You.”
Jesus: “I am here, Erin. I am with you. I know you have been deeply troubled as changes are difficult. I promise you though I will restore all the enemy has stolen and you need not worry. I am here. I am also mighty to save.”
Me: “Lord, I didn’t witness to my step dad or my brother.”
Jesus: “You have done so before and it didn’t go well. This time I called you to stand down and just listen. Instead, you prayed and your prayers have activated angels. They were glad to see you and this is more powerful to show your love than to act as if you are a preacher, understand? Now surrender them to Me. I promise in My hands they are in good care.”
Me: “Yes, of course, Lord.”
Jesus: “I called you there and I provided for you and strengthened you. Now you have some coming storms but I am here, do not be afraid. I am with you.”
Me: “I don’t want storms. My son hates me right now, Lord.”
Jesus: “He has fear. I am here, do not worry. This week ahead you must trust in Me fully, can you do this?”
Me: “Yes.”
Jesus: “One other item–I sent a friend to you to witness to your childhood. A reminder of your beginnings.”
Me: “Yes, out of the blue, it had been fifty years. But yes, he has testified to things I had forgotten about in my home life.”
Jesus: “Do not worry he is just a friend, but I sent confirmation to you about what had happened.”
Me: “Yes, last night.”
Jesus: “So, if I can do this–what is impossible for Me?”
Me: “Nothing, Lord.”
Jesus: “That is correct. I am with you, Erin. I love you.”
Me: “Lord, one other thing. How many generations have passed since Your birth?”
Jesus: “Good question. What have you concluded?”
Me: “About eighty. You are coming soon, right?”
Jesus: “Hmm. A mystery for now. Be careful about anything which creates confusion and fear, this is not of Me. My words should bring you peace and comfort. They should also bring preparedness of the heart. The enemy creates fear. So rejoice. I am the Prince of Peace in you–until the great and terrible day for those who curse My Bride, understand? I do return, and soon. So pray.”
